Buffalo Film History Series: Conan the Barbarian (1982)

To kick off BIFF’s 20th anniversary programming and Buffalo Film History Series, we’ll screen a favorite from founder Edward Summer’s filmography at sunset on the silos at Duende/ Silo City!

Conan the Barbarian is an epic, sword-and-sorcery film based on the pulp fantasy stories by Robert E. Howard. Summer was a fan of Howard’s, and the driving force behind this cinematic adaptation. He pitched the idea to Executive Producer Edward Pressman, helping to secure the rights and writing the first draft of the screenplay with Roy Thomas. Summer was ultimately credited as an Associate Producer, with Director John Milius and Oliver Stone co-authoring the final script.

The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger in his breakout role as a warrior seeking vengeance against Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), the evil leader of a snake cult who slaughtered his parents. Also starring Sandahl Bergman, Ben Davidson, Cassandra Gaviola, Gerry Lopez, Mako, Valerie Quennessen, William Smith, and Max von Sydow.

Seating is first come, first served. To ensure seating, please bring your own lawn chair.

The Four Winds and perhaps even Crom have smiled upon us, so a rain date will not be necessary!
