BIFF Offscreen: Building Worlds

Western New York Book Arts Center

Thursday October 6 - Thursday October 20 @ Western New York Book Arts Center

BIFF Offscreen: Building Worlds, Mixed media, 2022

This Offscreen exhibition features printed digital images and looping video of select concept art and schematics used to build new worlds in Bashira – an imaginative and original film shot in WNY and Japan. This exhibition focuses on the process of poiesis that the team, including featured concept artist Callen Desmond, employed to create this haunted world. In the film, the Southern Tier's Rock City becomes a nameless, timeless forest in Japan. The landscape is digitally shaped-land here.

About the Artist:

Callen Desmond is a concept designer in the entertainment industry, and is passionate about bringing new concepts to his work. He spent some time in Pasadena at Concept Design Academy focusing on creature and environment design. He also teaches Game Art & Design at Singapore Polytechnic.

Thank you to Jeff Sherven, and the University at Buffalo Department of Art's Big Prints Studio for their incredible generosity and the beautiful prints.
